Our philosophy

Our guiding philosophy is that the greatest gift you can give to others is your own health. Another way of saying that is: If you don’t take care of yourself now, someone else will have to later.

Sure, we know that those who love you would probably be happy to take care of you if and when you need it. And sure, we know that some people have ailments they have no control over, such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or the aftereffects of a stroke or accident. We should all be as compassionate and as helpful as possible with people who have disabilities.

But…and this is a really, really big but…many, many, many people have disabilities simply because they have not taken care of themselves. Think of someone you’ve seen in the supermarket, riding one of those motorized carts. This person is overweight, probably has bad knees (perhaps one or more joint replacements), has trouble moving around, gets winded easily, and so on. They may have brought along a son, daughter, grandchild, neighbor, or community volunteer to help them. And/or they ask for help from store employees, or from kind fellow shoppers.

Chances are, they got this way because they ate too much of the wrong kinds of food and did too little of the right kinds of exercise. They may have smoked or practiced some other bad habit.

Now, even though they may be only 60 or 70 years old (perhaps even younger), they have difficulty doing regular life "stuff"…and just forget travel, recreation, and playing with the grandkids. They may not even like going out in public because they’re ashamed of the way they look. Is this your idea of the Golden Years? It definitely isn’t ours.
